We are opening applications for skilled and motivated volunteers to work aboard Hawila from the 1st of July 2016! Participants should be ready to volunteer with us for at least 6 weeks. Deadline for application is the 20th of April 2016.
Focus will mostly be rig work during July and August, so experienced riggers and sail makers are most welcome to join us. Masts, topmasts, gaffs, bowsprit, lines, blocks, sails need to be checked, maintained, repaired, replaced before we can start test sailing the vessel in the Øresund strait and further in the end of August.
We will also start important woodwork inside the vessel to rearrange the volumes and allocate cargo hold space. This woodwork should be continued once we reach a shipyard in September, so boat builders, naval architects and carpenters are most welcome to join us.
You will be fed and hosted aboard Hawila during your entire stay. We will be working in a group of 5 to 10 people 7 hours a day from Monday to Friday. We will provide you with all the necessary tools, safety equipment and material in order to conduct the proper work. No alcohol is allowed onboard from Monday through Friday. Weekends are reserved for test sailing and cultural activities/workshops onboard the vessel that you are more than welcome to join, and/or animate workshops with your own knowledge. The idea of these workshops is to spread and share knowledge about traditional boat building and sailing techniques with hopes to inspire more projects like this to rise up in the future. In the end of August we will sail with artists, scientists and climate activists to Bornholm for a one week performance/workshop. We will set sail again shortly after to a shipyard where we can stay and work during the fall.
We are looking for skilled people to help us conduct this ambitious project of sailing cargo once again with Hawila! If you’re interested to come during this summer, please send us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with Subject: “Volunteer summer 2016 – YOUR NAME” and tell us about you, your skills and motivation, relevant experiences, the period you wish to come, and your experience living in a collective . A one week trial period upon arrival will be involved for all volunteers. Deadline is the 20th of April 2016.
We look forward to hearing from you!
